Writing a Graphic Novel Seminar

graphic novel seminarComic books are red hot in Hollywood now. Numerous blockbuster movies including Sin City, 300, Road to Perdition, Hellboy and Men In Black started out as indie comic books. The hit TV show The Walking Dead was also a graphic novel series.

With its combination of words and visuals in one attractive package, a comic book can be a great sales tool when pitching your project to movie studios because it’s easier for busy executives to see beforehand what the movie or TV series will look like.

Today, it is much easier to sell a graphic novel than a spec script. With a comic book in hand, you separate yourself from the huge crowd of new screenwriters that only have a spec script to peddle. Studios are looking for pre-branded properties with an existing fan base. You need to build an audience and generate buzz prior to submitting your material to producers. And comic books are a great, low-cost starting point to develop your story world.

Night Owl founder Martin Shapiro will be teaching an online class for screenwriters called "Writing a Graphic Novel Hollywood Will Buy" starting on Dec 1, 2012 through the Writers Store.

This 5-hour crash course covers everything you need to know to get started, including how to:

The instructor will demonstrate the tools and skills necessary to create high-quality artwork that brings your script to life. Class handouts will include legal contracts you can use when working with artists. Most of this insider information is NOT available in how-to books or online.

Prior guest speakers have included producer Scott Mitchell Rosenberg (Cowboys and Aliens, Men In Black), comic book writer and screenwriter Marc Guggenheim (Green Lantern, No Ordinary Family, Flash Forward, Eli Stone), Andrew Cosby (creator of the TV series Eureka and co-founder of BOOM! Studios), and David Wohl (editor-in-chief at Radical Publishing).

Seating is limited, so don't delay if you're interested in attending. To enroll, visit the Writers Store website.
